Prvo poglavje Sedim in gledam v pogorišče ki je bilo nekdaj dom. Moj dom.  Dom ki sva ga ustvarila z Emily. Sedim na pomolu, gledam okoli sebe a ne dojamem, da je vse izginilo. Vse kar sva z Emily dosegla, kar sva gradila leta, vse je šlo. In kar je najhuje, kar najbolj boli je to da se tudi posloviti nisem utegnil. Nikoli ne razmišljaš o tem da je mogoče kaj takega.  Zjutraj sm dobesedno zletel iz hiše brez da bi spil kavo...brez da bi jo poljubil. Samo odhitel sem ker se mi je mudilo. Kako je prišlo do tega se vprašam. Kako sem lahko dopustil da se je to zgodilo. In sedaj….sedaj ni več poti nazaj. Ni izgovorov kot je služba, kot je pomankanje časa.
